Can a roof be cleaned in the winter?
Yes. The Naples winter is the dry season, each month under 1.7 inches of normal rain, but a January averaging 65.3 F does not stop the conditions growth needs.

A Naples homeowner who has watched the roof darken wants to know whether the calendar, rather than the roof, should decide when to ask about a cleaning.
Short answer
None is published as the right one. No roofing maker or association names a month or season for roof cleaning in Naples, and Eagle Roofing Products' own trigger is significant discoloration on the roof. Read as a calendar rather than a rule, NOAA's Naples normals put the least rain in November through February, and no source read says roof algae stops growing in those months.
The makers
One roofing maker does write about seasons. Eagle Roofing Products' March 2024 article on its concrete tile opens with “The beginning of springtime is here” and places a seasonal cleaning after winter's winds, storms and temperature swings; its September 2020 article is headed Getting Ready for Fall and tells readers to “Consider the following when getting ready for fall,” with leaves changing and landing on the roof.
Those are a maker's seasonal-maintenance prompts, written for a national readership. The winter they describe is a northern winter and the leaves are falling leaves. Neither article names Naples, neither sets a rule, and neither gives an interval. They are a reminder to look at a roof when the seasons turn, and that is all they are quoted for here.
No other roofing maker or association read for this answer names a month or a season for roof cleaning, and none publishes how often a roof should be cleaned. What Eagle does give is a sign rather than a date. Its spring article says “If you notice significant discoloration on your roof, you may want to consider having your roof cleaned by a professional.”
So the only published trigger is the roof's own appearance. Everything below about the Naples year is this page's reading of public climate records against that trigger. It is labeled as a reading because no maker has written it.
The rain
NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for Naples Municipal Airport split the year sharply: 7.41 inches of normal rain in June, 7.77 in July, 8.89 in August and 8.60 in September, against 1.39 in November, 1.32 in December, 1.68 in January and 1.40 in February.
The Naples monthly normals table carries the months in between. The National Weather Service's Tampa Bay and Miami offices draw the edges of the wet season on the same dates, May 15 and October 15, and neither office's definition is a Naples measurement.
Rain matters to a roof cleaning for a specific reason. ARMA's shingle procedure leaves the solution on the roof for 15 to 20 minutes before a low-pressure rinse, and rain arriving inside that window is a rinse that came early. What the wet months change for the work is the subject of cleaning a roof in the rainy season. The drier months carry the least rain of the year, and roof cleaning in the Naples winter takes the dry season up in full.
The growth
A dry season is a rainfall fact, and no document read for this answer describes it as a pause in the growth. ARMA's technical bulletin says algae growth occurs to varying degrees across the U.S. and southern Canada, “especially those subjected to warm, humid conditions.”
Moisture does not wait for the rain either. GAF's current technical bulletin says blue-green algae requires moisture and proper temperatures to grow and that dew is the primary moisture source. On tile, the Tile Roofing Industry Alliance writes that spores start to grow “With enough cycles of heat, moisture and light.” The NWS Miami office describes the South Florida winter season as cooler and less humid, but none of these documents says a Naples winter stops the growth.
That is also why a month on the calendar says little about what a given roof looks like. By ARMA's account, visible algae has likely been growing for months, so a streak that appears in the dry months may have started in the wet ones. Why Naples roofs stain so quickly sets the climate case out at length.
The storms
The National Hurricane Center writes that “The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30,” with a peak on September 10 and most activity between mid-August and mid-October, and it notes that tropical cyclone activity sometimes occurs before and after those dates.
Laid over the rainfall normals, that season covers all four of the wettest months and runs on into the first of the dry ones. The NWS Tampa Bay office describes the wind-down of the rainy season, mid-September through early October, as having higher rainfall variability because of tropical systems and early cold fronts. The Naples storm calendar puts both calendars side by side.
What that overlap changes is the weather on a given day, including the National Weather Service's rule that no place outside is safe when thunderstorms are in the area. It does not make a cleaning into storm preparation. None of the roofing documents read for this answer ties a roof cleaning to the hurricane season, and a roof's readiness for wind is a roofing contractor's question, not a cleaner's.
The reading
Put the makers' trigger and the public calendar together and a reading follows. It is this page's own, and no maker or association has published it.
None of that names a month as correct for a roof, and nothing here is a schedule. Pavers run on a different condition again, a sealer's dry-surface wait, and the right month for exterior cleaning in Naples weighs the three surfaces together.
Eagle wrote it for its own concrete tile, in an article about Eagle concrete tile roofs, and it gives no measurement for significant. ARMA's bulletins for asphalt shingle name no seasonal trigger and no interval. On timing, ARMA says only that the effect of its bleach-and-water method is temporary and that the discoloration may recur.
No roofing document says so. The National Hurricane Center puts the peak on September 10, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October. What ends outdoor work on a given day is the weather itself, and the National Weather Service's lightning rule sends anyone outdoors to shelter when thunder is heard, whatever the date.

The roofing makers' documents read here do not tie a cleaning to hurricane season. A cleaning before June is an appearance choice; wind questions go to a roofer.
